Benvenuti / Welcome to

Sperlonga

Sperlonga, sometimes known as “La perla della Costa Pontina” is a beautiful seaside resort, a short drive from Itri along a wonderful scenic route.

Sperlonga is noted for its beautiful clean waters and golden sandy beaches.

This fashionable little town is extremely popular with the well-heeled Italian visitors from the city of Rome, particularly during the month of August, or on sunny summer weekends, when they flock to the seaside to escape the city heat.

However out of season Sperlonga reverts to a sleepy, peaceful setting for a relaxing Italian holiday, because, as yet, it is still comparatively undiscovered by international tourists.

Sperlonga's ancient whitewashed houses are clustered around a precipitous rocky crag, on Colle San Magno.

It is a delight to explore on foot, the labyrinth of narrow, winding, cobblestone alleys, stone archways and long winding staircases which meander through the old medieval town.  Some steps lead steeply downwards to the sea or out onto unexpected courtyards and view points, revealing breathtaking sea views, indeed, there is something to be discovered around every corner.

Delightful little “piazzettas” are surrounded by little shops, trendy boutiques, restaurants and bars, where you can rest while sipping an ice cold beer and take in the Mediterranean atmosphere.

In the 11th century a castle was constructed and the town was fortified within a wall with two gates, the Portella (Porta Carrese) and Porta Marina.
